Lessons in Disruptive Strategy

McCann’s Educational Assistance Program has become my new favorite benefit of being an IPG employee. The program allows anyone to take a job-related course at accredited schools, colleges or universities and be reimbursed for 75% of the tuition.

Through this program, I recently completed a certificate program from Harvard HBX called Disruptive Strategy. The course was a 6-week program delivered in an interactive online learning portal in short, high-impact segments.

Disruptive Strategy was taught by renowned best-selling author, HBS professor and business theorist, Clayton Christensen. The course covered his disruption innovation theory through case studies of different companies like The Walt Disney Company, OnStar and Netflix. The interactive learning portal allowed me to connect with business leaders all over the world on team projects and the personal reflections allowed me to apply these strategies to my everyday life at McCann. For example, we learned about deliberate vs. emerging strategies and the advantages and disadvantages to each. Ultimately, we found out balancing both was the most effective to unlock innovation within an organization. 

Although homework isn’t always the most fun thing to come home to after a long day at the office, it was a very rewarding experience that I was happy to have McCann support me on.
