Coffee & Conversation with the NY Film & TV Student Alliance
By Debbie Gleason, Business Manager
McCann recently hosted a “Coffee & Conversation” event for the New York Film & Television Student Alliance through the NYS Governor’s Film Office. This organization helps provide opportunities for young college students pursuing a career in the film or television industry. During the session, we had students from Ithaca College, NYU, Fordham University and Bronx Community College present their goals for the organization, followed by an informal networking event.
I have been committed to the future of the film industry in New York for many years, volunteering for the New York Production Alliance (NYPA) since 1998. And when the Academyfor Careers in Television & Film (ACTVF) opened their doors in 2008, I was there to help. Working with the NYPA members and industry professionals, I've been holding seminars and recruiting them to help with NYPA events. In 2011-12, ACTVF had its first graduating class and I proposed that the NYPA initiate scholarships for two graduating students who will continue their education in the production industry. This year, I even have the opportunity to present two $1,000 scholarships for the 5th graduating class of the high school.
I love the work I do with these organizations and am proud to have played a part in hosting the students at McCann.
