Side Hustle with Chavonne Hodges
Who: Chavonne Hodges
At McCann: Learning & Development Associate for Worldgroup
Side-Hustle: Certified Primary Group Fitness Instructor
Music genre of choice for fitness classes: Trap Music
NYC-bred advertising professional Chavonne Hodges spends her workdays connecting McCann employees to career development tools through learning and development workshops.
Last year while contemplating work-life balance, Chavonne was inspired by a Drake song and started to work out regularly. In her own words: “There’s a Drake lyric on his song ‘Right Hand’ that goes something like this:
‘You dream big and sleep late
You got a lot on your plate
That's why you're always working out.’
And I think that lyric pretty much sums up my life.”’
Chavonne’s budding interest in fitness and love of hip-hop influenced her to merge these two passions by pursuing a group fitness certification with a specialization in aerobics instruction. “I run and lift to hip hop music,” she says. “It’s the bravado in the lyrics that keeps me motivated. There has to be a way that I can make a workout feel like a party.”
Now that she's certified and insured, teaching people how to be fit is her full-fledged side-hustle. Starting this summer, Chavonne will start teaching hip hop-inspired aerobics classes in a NYC studio, merging contemporary music with exercise.
She has already started to build her brand, Grillz and Granola, and regularly contributes fitness and wellness posts on 20some.com.
Chavonne has brought her influence in-house at McCann as well. During April’s Wellness Month, she offered up this Gif series of easy workday stretches.
