Side Hustle with Sara Becker
It all started over dinner conversation about love of scents and the memories they can evoke. That turned into sharing perfume samples, which turned into, “let’s start a scent!”
We’ve all been at that dinner party where someone says: “There really needs to be a food truck devoted to naan!” and everyone in attendance agrees, and before you know it, you’re shouting out naan-puns for your future empire and agree to get started on a business proposal tomorrow.
The difference here, as Sara would soon find out, is that: her future partner has some hutzpah; they both love the way San Francisco smells; and they are a great duo for getting things done. Within weeks, Sara and her partner had established an LLC, located a perfumery in Greenwich village and broke down these specifics around their future, San Francisco-inspired scent:
- it should smell clean;
- feel modern and luxurious;
- definitely unisex;
- something you can wear all day; and
- not be watered down with alcohol, parfum verité.
Skip ahead a bit and Sara and team have launched their classy scent called "Williams & Murray’s 415” with a gorgeous website, have secured six resellers in LA, Miami, San Francisco (of course), New York and New Hampshire, and by request, are sending samples to VOGUE.
When I asked Sara, what’s next? she informed me that she’s filed a patent on an invention and is currently looking to prototype it so she can bring it to investors. She’s also working on an idea for a free NYC stories podcast. Oh right, and she’s also a Senior Copywriter for McCann XBC.
For the next month, we will have Sara’s perfume available in our offices to sample and smell. You won’t be disappointed in 415.
