“McCannterns” Make a Big Splash for Kids’ Day
Spinning in desk chairs, playing with office supplies and whining that I was bored is how I recall “Bring Your Kids to Work Day” oh-so-many years ago.
That is a far cry from McKids Day at McCann, which is an event -- a spectacle even! Or maybe just an easy way to entertain your children for a few hours.
This year’s Kids’ Day was run by the McCann summer interns and themed “Under the Sea," with an emphasis on the beloved “Finding Dory.”
Transforming a conference room into a fun, well-decorated space that mimicked the ocean was no easy feat. We hung streamers, blew up balloons and covered the floor with “sand” (or brown paper), which actually came in pretty handy for the inevitable spillage.
Then, there were the activities orchestrated by the interns, which proved to be a riotous success. We had mason jar-making, magnetic fishing, puppets, pong, and make-your-own movie posters.
We all know a well-fed kid is a happy kid and we made sure the food was themed as well. The kids loved the seaweed grapes, pretzel rod fishing poles, blue lemonade and watermelons carved to resemble clams. Lunch was catered by our office café, HK’s, and Chick-fil-A, which had literally just been announced the same day as McCann NY’s newest client. The aquatic dessert spread involved blue velvet cupcakes, blue Jell-O and blue gummy worms.
The 85 children also received goodie bags from Bright Horizons, which provides back-up child care to McCanners.
Overall, the event was a major success, and the interns played a crucial role in its operation and success.
There were no fires, deaths, or tears. And no whining.
