Talking Strat with Griffin Farley’s Beautiful Minds
We recently welcome 13 aspiring strategists to our offices to hear from some McCann leadership do rapid-fire presentations from The School of Strat. The panel included McCann Worldgroup Global Chief Strategist Suzanne Powers, McCann North America Chief Strategy Officer Steve Zaroff, McCann NY head of social/mobile Gemma Craven and McCann North America Chief Digital Officer Dan Bennett. The aspiring strategists were participants and finalists in Griffin Farley’s Beautiful Minds, a networking event and competition to train people on the basics of strategy, build their portfolios and help them make connections within the industry. Suzanne has been a judge at the competition for the past 4 years, and each year our involvement in GFBM grows.
Suzanne kicked off the night by talking about the tools and terminology used by MWG’s strategy community: Truth Well Told and Truth 2 Meaning -- our approach to strategy and planning. Steve gave the audience an overview of The School of Strat, showing the agency’s commitment to developing young strategic talent. Then it was time for “Digital 101” with Dan and Gemma who shared their perspectives on what it means to be a digital strategist in one of the world’s largest creative agencies.
The Q&A session turned into an engaging discussion around topics that strategists love: brands’ many problems and knowing which ones to solve.
At the end of the night, the aspiring planners met recruiters from McCann, MRM//McCann and Gotham. They left with a deeper knowledge of McCann’s strategic practices, as well as some important new contacts in the world of strat.
