Side Hustle With Katie Henry
It seems like anyone can call themselves a “photographer” these days. The somewhat unfortunate truth is, the combination of our own egos and social platforms has made photography nowadays more about self-presentation than what it was actually created for -- capturing the magic in a moment. Thankfully, there are still people out there that do it right. Take one look at Katie Henry’s website and Instagram and it’s clear she’s committed to photography’s origins.
Katie is an Integrated Producer for McCann NY and even though she never thought her actual job would be photography, she’s become our in-house photographer for all McCann NY events, headshots and office goings on. Outside of the office, Katie does individual and family portraits, shoots events like engagements and weddings, and collaborates on other side projects with co-workers and friends. Her style is refreshing — a reflection of her personality. After a brief conversation, I could tell she tries not to take herself too seriously. We spoke about how people tend to tense up in front of cameras, so capturing them candidly is her favorite way to shoot. At the end of the day, our raw and real emotions are, most of the time, impossible to reproduce.
The saying goes, “diamonds are forever,” but no diamond will ever be as valuable as time. Whether we want to admit it or not, we need people like Katie who can freeze it beautifully for us.
Katie’s work has been featured in “The View from You” feature in Time Out New York, which highlights the best IG posts from around the city, and her photo credits have appeared in outlets like SHOTS Magazine, Campaign US and Adweek.
