MAIP@McCann: Ready, Set, Network!

McCann hosted this summer’s second MAIP@McCann event devoted to supporting the current crop of McCann interns and alumni of the 4A’s Multicultural Advertising Intern Program. The event brought together the McCann Worldgroup MAIP interns and full-time McCann mentors to engage in a networking and resume-reviewing event, conducted speed-dating style.

In 15 minute increments, each of the MAIP interns rotated amongst the mentors to learn about their positions at McCann, get career and resume-building advice and to simply get to know each other. Here are some key takeaways from the event, applicable at any stage in an advertising career:

·      Lateral Connections Count. The importance of making real connections and maintaining them should not be understated. You never know what opportunity or project venture can grow from strong friendships with fellow interns or co-workers in your department.

·       Energy is important. Bringing a positive, upbeat energy to the workplace is always appreciated, especially during deadlines or ahead of an important client presentation. Being remembered for a positive, driven attitude lasts.

·     Consider integrating personal interests into your resume. Although resume feedback is always subjective, including an “interests” section with side projects or activities you do outside of work can help create natural talking points during an interview.

Making connections and engaging with diverse perspectives are values that MAIP and McCann both share, which was apparent at the event.
