NYC Rallies for Fearless Girl
McCann NY creatives Tali Gumbiner and Lizzie Wilson joined Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney, N.Y., on the steps of City Hall this morning in New York to rally for the permanent installation of Fearless Girl on Wall Street. The event also brought together State Street Global Advisors and the Fearless Girl artist, Kristen Visbal. Congresswoman Maloney presented all parties with Congressional Extensions of Remarks, official statements that are read into the Congressional Record and become a permanent part of history. They were presented as framed certificates with language around the extension and a thank you to each party for their role in bringing Fearless Girl to the city.
The event followed on the heels of the exciting news that New York City has officially invited the Fearless Girl to remain in her spot through February 2018. The statue has been added to the city’s DOT Art program, which partners with community-based organizations and artists to present public art on DOT property in all five boroughs. In a statement, Mayor Bill De Blasio said: “In her short time here, the Fearless Girl has fueled powerful conversations about women in leadership and inspired so many. Now, she’ll be asserting herself and affirming her strength even after her temporary permit expires — a fitting path for a girl who refuses to quit.”
Speakers at the rally included Congresswoman Maloney, Visbal, Lynn Blake, EVP of State Street Global Advisors, and Andrea Hagelgans, Senior Advisor to Mayor de Blasio, among others. They all showed their support of Fearless Girl and the power of female leadership in the boardroom and beyond.
