MPMS @ McCann Immersion Session 2017
This year, we refreshed our annual MPMS @ McCann immersion session. The MPMS (“Most Promising Multicultural Students”) program, now in its 10th year, connects the advertising industry with the nation’s top multicultural college seniors. The program not only honors the students, but enhances their knowledge of the advertising industry by offering networking, interviewing and industry immersion opportunities with advertising professionals, marketing and media professionals.
This year, instead of the usual company presentation and tour, we decided to give students a true sense of the McCann strategic process. After an upfront introduction to McCann Worldgroup, we incorporated a quick-fire brand challenge. Fifty MPMS students were broken into teams and given a real McCann client challenge, which was to find an unconventional marketing idea that would encourage an increased use of a delivery service. Seven teams strategized and came up with some pretty innovative solutions. Team leaders presented their ideas to 5 McCann account and creatives and the winning team received guaranteed interviews and a personal agency tour.
Since the event last month, the students and the organizers at the American Advertising Federation (AAF) have sent us strong, positive feedback, such as:
“Thank you for an awesome immersion! The students talked about it all week.”
- Kai Jones, Director, Mosaic Center & Education Services, American Advertising Federation
“Winning the case competition was really the highlight of an incredible week.”
- 2017 MPMS student
“The competition was so fun. Really enjoyed the talk.”
- 2017 MPMS student
We have scheduled interviews and 1:1 coaching sessions for each of the winning team members, and are actively considering them for entry level opportunities across the network. We look forward to strengthening our partnership with MPMS for the future by continuing to come up with new and fresh ways to engage with these students.
