McCann Hosts the Ad Club of NY Interns
McCann recently hosted the Advertising Club of New York interns as part of a Lunch & Learn series in which they visit various agencies in the city to connect with professionals and get a deeper dive into the ad world. The Ad Club is all about making these kinds of connections and their Foundation, which includes the intern program, develops and administers educational outreach programs at the undergraduate level.
For our session, North American Chief Creative Officer Eric Silver presented to the group -- including our own McCann NY and McCann Worldgroup interns -- and shared his thoughts on what makes great creative, what inspires him, and discussed his long and storied career path. Following that, I joined my fellow recruiters Leigh Zimmerman and Christy Kreibom to speak with the interns and share tips and tricks as they launch their careers in our industry.
We shared ways to make a portfolio and/or resume stand out, like having a creative resume template even if you are not a creative, and only having 6 pieces of work on your portfolio so recruiters don’t get buried in information. Interviewing tips included always bringing your resume and being prepared with the agency’s latest work and news. Finally, we provided an agency tour so they could get a taste of our unique company culture and how we work across departments and floors. We are particularly proud of our open collaborative spaces on each floor, our high-ceilinged atrium on 23 with fun touches like a ping pong table and our café on 26. Our sweeping views of midtown across every floor never get old.
We are currently hosting our own summer internship program at McCann, as we are deeply committed to championing and developing the next generation of advertising and marketing professionals.
