Cheers to the Interns

Cheers to the Interns

While the McCann summer internship program is defined by hard work and cultivating your skill set, it’s also filled with a lot of fun. Work hard, play hard – am I right?

This week, I caught up with a few of my fellow interns at Thursdays@5, McCann’s weekly happy hour, to help you get to know them a little better.

Name: Kaleigh Pittman, Learning & Development at McCann Worldgroup

School: Undergrad – University of Virginia, Master’s – NYU

Graduation Year: Undergrad – 2016, Master’s – 2018

Hometown: Greensboro, North Carolina

How did it feel when you got your offer letter?

I was ecstatic! This is the first internship opportunity I’ve had that truly integrates what I’m studying in school. I was even more excited after LinkedIn-stalking my manager and realizing he studied the same thing as me.

How do you feel right now?

Now I’m even more appreciative of this opportunity as I’ve not only learned an incredible amount in my role, but also about what I want from a future employer.

Who has influenced you most since being at McCann?

Cliché answer, but my manager. He has been an immense help in shedding light on the field that is Industrial/Organizational Psychology (yes, it’s a thing – Google it), and he’s also provided a great example on how to navigate the whole work-life balance thing.

Describe your role here in one word.

 “Intoxicating.”

What’s your favorite thing about working at McCann?

My favorite thing would have to be how much the company appreciates their employees and how well they show it. In addition to that, how everyone -- and I mean everyone -- brings fun and liveliness to the workplace. That’s something I can always get on board with.

What’s one thing you want other McCanners to know about you?

I “ran" the New York Pride Run a few weeks ago and then went and got Taco Bell right after…aka at 10:30 a.m. They start serving their lunch menu at 9 a.m. in case anyone’s wondering.

 Thoughts on Thursdays@5?

It definitely brings me back to undergrad days when Thursday was an even more exciting night out than Friday.

Anything else you’d like to add?

The Braves are better than the Yankees.

Name: Collier Hammons, Global Strategy at McCann Worldgroup

School: University of Oklahoma

Graduation Year: 2017

Hometown: Yukon, Oklahoma

How did it feel when you got your offer letter?

I was so excited and also incredibly nervous! Moving to New York was a big move for me at the time, and when I got the offer letter from McCann, it was opportunity knocking at the door.

How do you feel right now?

Humbled, inspired and most of all, welcomed. The people here are some of the brightest, kindest people I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with.

Who has influenced you most since being at McCann?

I’d say my team has been the most influential on me. They do an incredible job of making sure I feel included, up-to-date and helpful with my work. They also have showed me how to approach a variety of problems in new, challenging ways.

Describe your role here in one word.

“Versatile.”

What’s your favorite thing about working at McCann?

It’s kind of a McCann cliché, but the people and the happy hours. It’s so cool to see so many different people from different disciplines coming together and acting like family.

What’s one thing you want other McCanners to know about you?

That I’m always ready to learn something new or provide a weird/funny idea.

 Thoughts on Thursdays@?

See above.

Name: Michelle Perri, Digital Strategy and Global Innovation at McCann Worldgroup

School: Vassar College

Graduation Year: 2019

Hometown: Dobbs Ferry, New York

How did it feel when you got your offer letter?

Really exciting! I was hoping to be a part of a program like this…and I knew the summer would be a valuable experience for me.

How do you feel right now?

I feel pretty good right now. Kind of tired from working all day but happy with the work I have been doing and happy to be here with great people.

Who has influenced you most since being at McCann?

There hasn’t been one person, but everyone on the global innovations team has been really inspiring. Just to see how much they love and care about the work they’re doing has really rubbed off on me.

Describe your role here in one word.

“Helpful.”

What’s your favorite thing about working at McCann?

I think my favorite thing about McCann is the environment. Everyone is really happy to be here and it makes working a lot more enjoyable.

What’s one thing you want other McCanners to know about you?

Being here has solidified for me that I want to go into advertising and I think that speaks a lot to the type of place this is.

Name: Caroline St. George, New Business at CRAFT

School: University of Richmond

Graduation Year: 2019

Hometown: New Canaan, Connecticut

How did it feel when you got your offer letter?

There is really no one word to describe the feeling because it was such a mix of different emotions. Mostly I was over the moon happy and excited, but also astounded that I was being given the chance to work at such a revolutionary and exciting company. There were also nerves there too for sure.

How do you feel right now?

LUCKY! I cannot believe how amazing this experience has been and how much I have learned about the industry -- and about myself. Every day I learn something new. Whether it’s from the amazing people at Craft WW who have gone out of their way to make sure I am in the loop and really learning, or from my fellow interns who are all so passionate and inspired, I am always learning.

Who has influenced you most since being at McCann?

There have been countless people who have influenced me since being here, but I think the person who I have been most inspired by is my boss, Maria. From day one she has been such a great role model. I see how passionate, smart and dedicated she is, and it motivates me to work harder. She has taught me so much about so many different aspects of the advertising world, and just life in general. I cannot thank her enough for everything!

Anything else you’d like to add?

I will be so sad when this summer comes to an end; I wouldn’t trade this experience for the world.

Name: Satwick Srikrishnan, Truth Central at McCann Worldgroup

School: Bard College

Graduation Year: 2017

Hometown: Mumbai, India

How did it feel when you got your offer letter?

Absolutely surreal. I was asked to “shut it” when I ‘yay-d’ too loudly in the library while writing two senior theses. After I finished writing an important chapter of my Economics Senior Project, I celebrated by playing a squash tournament the day after! Unfortunately, I lost all my matches.

Describe your role here in one word.

“Exploratory.”

What’s your favorite thing about working at McCann?

The people! Ever so approachable and amiable.

What’s one thing you want other McCanners to know about you?

Apart from the English language, I speak Hindi and Tamil. Let’s talk!

Thoughts on Thursdays@5?

SO LIT. Surprise me with a Bollywood dance tune!
