Good Morning McCann: Jaunt
This morning we had the pleasure of hosting Jaunt for our September Good Morning McCann. Jaunt is a provider of XR solutions that helps companies produce and distribute the full spectrum of immersive content, including virtual reality, augmented reality, and mixed reality.
Simply put, XR is a way to extend reality and have the digital world mesh with the physical world. It is a blanket term that encompasses AR, VR and everything in between. Jaunt took us through the spectrum that distinguishes the seven platforms.
Augmented reality (AR) allows the user to see three dimensional objects in a real-world environment. If you have used Snapchat or Instagram filters, then you have used AR.
Mixed reality (MR) is the merging of the real and virtual world to produce new environments and visualization where physical and digital objects co-exist in real time.
360 video is when multiple cameras with overlapping viewpoints are stitched together in post-production. 360 video allows the user to define their own experience by letting them spin entirely around when using a headset to notice different elements of the film.
Cinematic VR is a tier above 360 as it is an up-res version. The user views cinematic VR though a headset with high resolution video, stereoscopic or three-dimensional visuals and spatialized audio and the viewer gets a full digital experience without actually being in space.
Interactive VR is the top tier of 360 video and the viewer has three degrees of freedom, meaning the user can look in every direction and push buttons to change the story or perspective. It is the top tier of 360 video.
6 DOF VR is when the user can actually enter into and walk around a 3-dimensional environment. This is the highest end experience that allows the user to fully interact and create VR while in VR.
Location based is the farthest end of the XR spectrum. This pushes the limits of what’s possible today because the user needs specialized hardware that isn’t available at home, to map physical to digital.
Jaunt closed out the presentation by setting up different XR stations for people to experience AR and VR for themselves.
If you are interested in XR opportunities, feel free to reach out to Lora Feinman (firstname.lastname@example.org) from Jaunt and she would be happy to walk you through ways in which Jaunt can help make your campaign come to life.
