McCanners of New York | 107th Edition
How long have you been at McCann and what do you do here?
Only 6 months, but feels like years (in a good way)! I work in Global Strategy under our Global CSO, Suzanne Powers.
What do you do when you’re not working?
Isn’t everyone’s answer to this Netflix and more Netflix? But I do pretend to be a tourist and adventure, no matter how many years I’ve lived here.
Favorite go-to drink?
Like any other #basic person would say: my morning cup of coffee.
Cheesecake, cheesecake, and more cheesecake.
What's your favorite scary movie?
What is a piece of information people would be surprised to hear about you?
That contrary to my very-American name, I’m Middle Eastern! Forever soaking up the best of both worlds (Hannah Montana reference intended).
First ever job?
A sideline soccer referee. You know, that unusually small kid that waves the flag up and down? Yep, that was me. Being yelled at by angry parents for zoning out to the hot kid on the opposing team.
What was your first ever concert?
I saw Ed Sheeran in a small concert on the Philadelphia river front back when he was un-cool. I like to think I found him before he got famous.
What movie makes you cry?
Everything and anything. Call me Sensitive Sally.
Where was the last place you traveled to?
Cairo, Egypt! I’m originally Egyptian, so I have tons of family and friends that I go to visit at least once a year.
Current song on repeat?
Ariana Grande’s new album. DUH.
Go to Karaoke song?
Anything Ne-Yo or Usher, sloooooow parts and all.
What advice would you tell your high school self?
RELAX! Your New York dreams will come true.
What are you currently obsessed with?
Of course my mind goes straightly to a food option: Lotus Biscuit Cookie Butter. Thank me later.
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
There’s a certain stereotype that goes along with being a Middle Eastern woman, whether that’s not being allowed to move away from home, travel alone, be hungry in your career, work in something that’s not science!, the list goes on. And I like to say that I’ve crushed a lot of those while still staying true to who I am.
What is your motto?
Cheesy moment alert: I’ve always been a sucker for patience. I’ve seen too many “bad moments” evolve into something bigger and better. So if you ask any of my close friends, they’re sick of me always telling them to “be patient”, no matter how cliché it may sound.
Your worst habit?
I shake my leg. A lot. Sorry desk mate (cough cough Matt Regan).
Pick two celebrities to be your parents
Amal & George Clooney – because, come on.
Favorite Instagram account you think everyone should follow.
Another #basic answer, but @humansofnewyork !!
First celebrity crush?
Will always and forever be Jake Gyllenhaal
