McCann Pride Portrait Series with Antonia Orol-Berlinger
What is your favorite political milestone since Stonewall?
U.S. versus Windsor, a case ruled DOMA* unconstitutional. This case is what began to pave the way for marriage equality. Plus Edie Windsor is a certified boss. There's a great article on Them about her, and a Drunk History episode on her if reading isn't your jam.
*The Defense of Marriage Act—i.e. marriage only being recognized between a man and a woman on a federal scale. Google probably has a lengthier explanation of it should you want to do more research.
How many times have you been to Stonewall?
Inside? 0. Does that make me a bad queer?
What does Stonewall represent for you?
To me, the Stonewall Riots represent the beginning of the fight for equal treatment for those in the LGBTQIA+ community. A fight that, sadly, continues today since no matter how far we have come there is still a ways to go in terms of equal rights and also acceptance.
Describe yourself in 3 words.
Opinionated, Punny, Scorpio (yes I'm using my star sign as a descriptor, don't @ me)
How important is it for you to be out at work?
I think it is incredibly important to be out at work. It allows you to create your most authentic, and hopefully impactful work. *Insert shameless plug for the Mastercard Acceptance Matters campaign here*
