Within the LGBTQ+ community who do you think needs our support the most right now? How can we help? Women, people of color, and the transgender community need support from everyone in and outside of the community. We can help by providing them a stage to speak the truth about their lives and stop speaking for them. We can help by creating and enforcing stricter anti-discrimination laws on a federal level across the board: health care, violence, housing, employment, etc.
What does Stonewall represent to you? Stonewall represents a sort of ‘big bang’ for the gay rights movement. The pieces have always been there, swirling around in a very tense and unstable state. Stonewall is and was the culmination of those pieces that ignited the queer rights movement into an ever-growing, ever-expanding phenomenon that will not be stopped.
How important is it for you to be out at work? It’s very important for me to be out at work because it’s important for me to be out completely in my life. I never want to be seen as disingenuous or fake because it’s important to know who a person truly is. I’ve found this makes for faster, easier and closer friendships as people always know who I am.
