McCocktail of the Month: Ex-Pat
I hope you’ve been enjoying the McCocktail of the Month as much as I have! Last month’s Business with Pleasure seemed to have been well received, with a surprising number of people coming back for seconds. I was, however, shocked by the number of people who were turned off by the fact that the drink was gin-based. What’s not to love about gin!? For all those skeptics, go to your local cocktail bar and order a Bee’s Knees. Simply delicious.
This month, I’m taking things deep into crowd-pleasing territory with the Ex-Pat, courtesy of Lauren Schell and Vito Dieterle of Little Branch. It’s a bit of a riff on a Bourbon Smash, but swaps out lemon juice for lime juice, adding a touch of extra bitterness, as opposed to lemon juice’s sour profile. The muddled mint makes for a pretty accessible drink on a hot day.
Remember, it’s first come, first serve, and I only make 50 servings. So, if you’re not in HK’s in the first twenty minutes of Happy Hour, assume you missed out!
Recipe for the Ex-Pat:
2 oz Bourbon
1 oz Lime Juice
¾ oz Simple Syrup
2 Dashes Angostura Bitters
Handful of Mint
Combine all ingredients in a shaker, muddle the mint, shake with ice and double-strain. Garnish with a mint sprig.
